This brooch was created to pay tribute to my late grandmother, Ogretta. I chose a miniature polaroid photograph that I have cherished for many years. It was taken in her kitchen, where she always felt at home and was constantly baking. When she wasn’t creating edible masterpieces, she could be found outdoors working or enjoying nature. She loved flowers and was very proud of her multiple gardens. She also loved wearing feminine prints and bright colors. I chose to use floral components throughout the brooch to reference her love for flora in addition to her expression of femininity. In the photograph she is wearing a pink and blue floral print garment. I hand picked the repurposed plastic used for the dangling flowers to coordinate with the hues in the image.
