The photograph that inspired my brooch was taken during the exploration of an urban ruin. The abandoned factory was located near my studio in a rapidly gentrifying section of town. It has since been torn down, but I was able to capture many images while the derelict shell still stood. Inside was a dizzying array of pipes, conduits, and apparatus, as well as copious graffiti. I incorporated many of those elements in the components I fabricated for the piece.
