Southern Charm: Memento Mori is inspired by the American South. As you pass through certain areas of eastern North Carolina, you often see small groupings of historic headstones. These small, strange cemeteries pop up in the strangest of places, from the parking lot of the local shopping mall, to the middle of fields still used for soybeans, peanuts and the southern staple, cotton. These constant reminders of one’s own mortality, set in the romantic context of the Southern landscape creates an odd dynamic between past and present, remembrance and forgetting, resulting in the unique charm of the South.
