My work often addresses the shortcomings of mass manufacturing by focusing on the human form and making fabrication decisions based not on cost, but on the influence the object has on the viewer and wearer.

About the Artist:

Arthur Hash received his MFA in metalsmithing and jewelry design from Indiana University in 2005 and his BFA in Crafts/Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002. Currently, Arthur is the Metals area coordinator for Appalachian State University's Metal area.

"The work that I am making now often moves beyond body adornment and lives in a world of discursive design. I see problems with wearable objects and by combining the creative thinking of a designer and the hand skills of a craftsman I believe that an emotional response can be influenced through re-making/repairing/re-creating wearable
objects. I like to think that the work I am making is about our time.

As makers we have lost our place of privilege to technology. By appropriating these tools to make unique expressive work it is addressing our purpose and re-establishes the role of the craftsmen in today’s consumer culture. My work often addresses the shortcomings of mass manufacturing by focusing on the human form and making fabrication decisions based not on cost, but on the influence the object has on the viewer and wearer."
