Artist Statement: 

This brooch is a personal musing on the allurement and faith surrounding electric media. I find great pleasure in the challenge posed when an atypical setting must be devised in order to achieve a vision.  

Artist Biography:

Autumn Brown is a native of Augusta, Georgia. She completed her BFA in Metalsmithing from the University of Georgia in 2006 and her MFA in Metal Design from East Carolina University in 2010.

Recurring themes addressed in her work are the structure of the unconscious psyche and the interplay between elements of modern electric technology and the human sensorium. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Recent accolades include exhibiting in the Grand Rapids Museum of Art’s "ArtPrize Encore" series, participating in the Smith Shop Detroit residency and being represented by “vol. 1” of Jewelry edition.

Currently Autumn resides in Kalamazoo, MI where she is Area Coordinator and instructor for Metals/Jewelry in the Frostic School of Art at Western Michigan University. She has also served as Summer metals faculty at Interlochen Center for the Arts for the past seven years and volunteers for both the Society of North American Goldsmiths and Yuma Arts Symposium.

When time allows, Autumn works on her side project Blue Onion Bus, an old school bus she has renovated to become a mobile studio and gallery space. You can follow her progress on Instagram @BlueOnionBench
